research Portfolios & Case Studies

Core research Pillars

01 / Cognitive Character Design
Focus: Analyzing how historical archetypes, cultural costuming, and silhouette psychology impact player immersion and narrative delivery within interactive mediums.

02 / Modular Technical Efficiency
Focus: Investigating structural optimization in 3D modeling and texture space budgeting. Developing scalable, modular pipelines that maximize visual fidelity while strictly conserving computing resources.

03 / Pedagogical Workflows
Focus: Translating complex, fast-moving industry art practices into structured, documented methodologies that can be systematically taught, replicated, and advanced within academic research.

Case Studies

Case Study 1:

The Technical Challenge Translating abstract behavioral traits into an instantly recognizable, 3D-ready character concept for a stylized game environment. The narrative required a sinister antagonist—a driver who actively frightens and abducts children—demanding a precise creative balance: projecting predatory menace while adhering to the aesthetic constraints of a stylized casual game
Research Approach Balancing narrative threat with casual game aesthetics required investigating how anatomical asymmetry, unhygienic signifiers, and unpredictable facial expressions communicate volatility. The visual design leverages exaggerated silhouettes, bold line art, and clean value blocking for instant readability. Color theory informed the palette, grounding the character in tones of neglect and decay (dirty olives and muddy beiges) while utilizing localized warm accents to signal unpredictable danger.
Execution
Form & Expression: Built geometric volume through initial grayscale value passes before introducing color, establishing key visual storytelling elements including an unhinged expression, gold tooth detail, facial scarring, and a characteristic matchstick tic
.Color Strategy & Technical Delivery: Formulated a muted color system alongside production colorway variations, concluding with a dedicated circular portrait pass optimized for in-game UI integration.

Case Study 2:

3D Modular Asset Creation & Texturing

Project Title: High-Fidelity Modular Environment Pipelines
The Technical Challenge: Building complex game environments under strict device memory budgets without sacrificing visual depth, micro-details, or unique textures.
The Research Approach: Developing a systematic modular kit-bashing system.
This involved researching grid-based snapping metrics and creating reusable smart materials in Substance Painter to maintain absolute stylistic cohesion across dozens of unique props.
The Execution: A technical showcase displaying wireframe overlays, topology loops optimized for mobile engines, trim sheets, texture budget layouts, and the final assembled engine-ready environment.Type your paragraph here

Case Study 3:

UI/UX & Interaction Design

Project Title: Cognitive Player-Flow & Interface Architecture
The Technical Challenge: Reducing cognitive friction for players in high-engagement mobile titles, ensuring that complex game systems (inventories, shops, settings) are entirely intuitive.
The Research Approach: Mapping out extensive wireframe flows based on thumb-zone mapping and visual hierarchy laws (such as Fitts' Law and the Gutenberg Diagram) to guide the player's eye naturally to critical actions.
The Execution: A breakdown showing early low-fidelity UX wireframes, user interaction flowcharts, and the final high-fidelity stylized vector UI components and typography layouts.
